WORKING OF SEARCH ENGINE

The Search Engine has two major functions:
  • Crawling
  • Indexing
and providing relevant results.

The Search Engines use programs called crawlers or spiders, to read the source code of the website and store this data on their local servers. This technique is called crawling of the website. A website is generally crawled 3 to 4 times a year.

After this, Indexer takes the data from the local server of crawlers and arranges them in categories like hotels, hospitals, schools, restaurants etc. This indexed data is stored in the main database.

The Rank algorithm is a program that ranks the website accordingly the website data. Now, when a user types a query in search engine, the search matches the keywords in their database and presents the website containing the keywords according to the rank assigned by the Rank Algorithm.
